Some projects are like fever dreams... you've seen them come to fruition in your mind so often over time that when they actually happen you need to be there to see it, to experience it.. so when you get an unexpected text at an early hour on a rainy Friday in June 2025 that a sign install is happening that morning you clear the decks, layer up, grab coffee and get into BTV...
Over the course of that rainy (and eventually sweltering) Friday, I watched the dedicated, resourceful, and funny Sammel Group raise and install the first of 10 sections of signage I had designed in early 2023 onto a building I've seen evolve over 23 years into the current version of the Switchback Brewing Co.
Fun fact: the only other branded sign to grace that elevation of @switchbackbeer since 2002 was ALSO produced by Roger Sammel, at the largest size and highest height allowed by the City of Burlington until an exterior renovation of the Brewery lead to its removal.
Over a few additional days the remaining panels of the sign were installed, and I was able to drive down Flynn Ave and experience the typography I'd dreamed would grace that building since my late 30's, stupid grin on my face.
Successful projects only happen because the right people handle the right parts consistently at the right time. Big thanks to the Sammel Group for masterful craftsmanship and dedicated installation, and to @switchbackbeer for keeping Interrobang involved in the big things, seeing the endgame, and handling all the politics, permits, and allocating the funds to do it right.
Sign build details: 800"w x 42"h, 3mm composite aluminum, full color digital print with matte lamination, 1" thick PVC letters painted matte white and screwed to substrate, panels mounted to corrugated siding.
